A Perilous Journey into Imagination Land

A Perilous Journey into Imagination Land

September 29, 2021

Strictly speaking,
It's never been safe
To go inside yourself.

To see the sights
Inside your mind
Where you can't ask for help.

Looming over everything,
And way up in the sky,
A broken face looks down at me,
And casts a scornful eye.

But in this upside-down place,
In this jumbled world of mine,
This hall of colored mirrors
That reflect my mixed-up mind...

I somehow find a waterfall,
A giggling, babbling brook,
And woodland creatures of the heart
That come to take a look.
I find a hidden magic place,
A world within the world,
A heart within my broken heart,
A girl within this girl.

And though things haven't changed much here —
The face in the sky is still so severe,
And the things that are scary are still just the same —
I speak to myself now, and whisper my name.

I say: listen up, this is YOUR magic land,
Then I gather my courage, and I hold my own hand.
