Christopher Columbus Conquering Jupiter

Christopher Columbus Conquering Jupiter

We came to this planet
For glory.

We came to this planet to
Gather riches for our posterity.

We came here seeking trade routes
For spices and asteroid fragments,
And magnetronic minerals.
Nanoparticles and ectoplasms,
Artificial intelligences,
And oriental delights…

Precious hydrogens
And heliums,
Nitrates for our children
And our children’s children.

We came to this planet for the old gods like you.
To defeat you and destroy you.

But you fought back,
Tyrant of the nighttime sky!
Horrible of horribles,
With your Great Red Spot,
Your storms that
Hunger
To swallow up
Whole planets.

Innocent planets,
Desirous only of peace
And prosperity...

I’ve seen the asteroid belt,
Tightened around our
Astrological midsections.
And I’ve seen the mine fields.
I’ve seen the burnt out husks
The remnants
Of what could have been.

I’ve seen the wars and the neglect,
I’ve seen the depravity of your kingdom.

You scoff,
But to no avail

I have the Earth on my side.

And I will fight
To my final days.
